A Season of Hope
March 26, 2018
This week marks Holy Week, one of the most sacred observances of the year for Christians as we contemplate the events leading up to Easter.
Perhaps one of the richest meanings we can glean from Holy Week is the message of hope. Even with the dark events of Good Friday surrounding the crucifixion of Christ, hope ultimately wins. This is an important lesson to remember in our daily lives, especially if (and when) we are going through hard times.
In some seasons of our lives, it may seem like we don’t have enough time or energy. In addition to working long hours at our jobs, contending with frustrating commutes, and dealing with stress, we must keep up with the daily tasks of laundry, dishes, cooking, errands, and raising families. Add to that the impact of daily news headlines, world events, and uncertainties about the future, and it’s easy to see how hope can fade. We sometimes feel like we’re on autopilot, and a somberness can settle in our souls.
This Easter, you may find yourself in one of these seasons of life, one in which you’re looking for hope. How can we find joy and hope, even in the midst of life’s challenges? How do we shift our focus from the troubles that surround us and hold steadfastly to the hope He has given us,
“knowing that the testing of (our) faith produces endurance...so that (we) may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing”
The good news of Easter is that, even in the darkest of times, we know that a victory is coming! Scripture tells us,
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”
(John 16:33). Whatever our circumstances, we need not fear because He made an incredible promise to us. The battle has been won and HE is the victor! God is in control, so we don’t need to be anxious. If we turn to Him, He’s ready to listen to our prayers.
If, this Easter season, you find yourself in a better place than you have been – or if you are experiencing a time of relative joy and peace within your life – your ministry to others may be an opportunity to share what you’ve learned in your walk of faith. For those near you who are experiencing difficulties, sharing your time and resources may be just what they need. Hope is spread when we share our joys and divide our sorrows with others. Romans 12: 12-13 says,
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Finally, Paul’s closing words to the Philippians provide insight that can help us all maintain a heavenly perspective on life’s circumstances:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
At Ronald Blue Trust, our prayer for you is that, no matter your situation or the challenges you are facing, He will continually bring to mind His promise of hope and victory.
