An Easter Reflection
April 22, 2019
The following was written by Dana Kloes, Director of Human Resources for Ronald Blue Trust located in Atlanta, Georgia.
“For behold, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
The flowers have already appeared in the land;
The time has arrived for pruning the vines
And the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land.”
-Song of Solomon 2:12
I love sunny winter days — the crispness in the air, the crunch of leaves under my feet, and the bright sun shining down. Winter is the perfect time of year for hiking and I love that on a clear day you can see for miles through the trees. As much as I relish a cold, crisp winter day, winter in Atlanta is typically gray and colorless, and I look forward to the new life that spring brings.
By the time April arrives, I’m ready for a change. The colorful blooms and fragrant smells of the dogwoods, azaleas, and cherry trees remind us of God’s love and provision for our lives. How appropriate that we celebrate Easter in springtime, when the new life all around us reminds us of the resurrection of Jesus and the faithfulness of our heavenly Father who
“richly supplies us with all things to enjoy”
(1 Timothy 6:17).
This Easter, I thought about how incredible it must have been to be a disciple of Jesus when he was living on this Earth and to walk through each day with Him. I can’t imagine the immense sense of loss they must have felt after His death, and the disbelief and rejoicing they experienced at seeing the risen Lord. Luke 24 tells the story of Jesus’s resurrection:
“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen.’”
He has risen indeed and His mercies are new every morning!
Easter reminds me of the promises that the Lord has made to us,
“I will never leave you, nor forsake you”
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age”
(Matthew 28:20). With all that is temporal around us, it comforts me to know that He is always with us on our journey through this life.
This Easter season, I encourage you to take a walk outside and revel in the new mercies of spring and remember the faithfulness of a loving Father who provides new life in Christ.
From the entire Ronald Blue Trust family, I hope you had a joyous and meaningful Easter.
