Happy Thanksgiving from Ronald Blue Trust!
November 18, 2019
It’s the time of year when we pause to celebrate and appreciate our many blessings. One of our greatest blessings is the freedom we enjoy, and we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Veterans Day, which was observed last Monday. On this very important day, we remembered and honored military personnel who have served our country. Knowing our freedom isn’t guaranteed, we are profoundly grateful for the sacrifices our veterans have made in order to protect our freedom and way of life. We are also blessed to be able to impact Kingdom work through helping our clients enjoy financial freedom and to live generously. This month marked an important milestone as Ronald Blue Trust celebrated 40 years of providing Wisdom for Wealth. For Life. As we celebrated together across the company, it was a wonderful opportunity for present and past company leadership to reunite and express thanks to God for His guidance through the years.
Of course, we’ve certainly seen the world change quite a bit since our founding 40 years ago. In 1979, there were no smartphones, social media, or 24/7 news feeds. The Internet hadn’t been invented yet, and most people had never heard of a personal computer. To say that technology has transformed and reshaped our society is a huge understatement. However, no matter how much society has changed, there are some principles that never change – one of them is that thankfulness is an important spiritual practice. Thankfulness has been defined as an expression of acknowledgment and appreciation of God's grace, blessings, and sovereign work in one's personal life and in the world. The Bible tells us that thankfulness reminds us that everything we have is the product of God's sovereign control, infinite wisdom, purposes, grace, and activity (2 Corinthians 4:15).
Needless to say, our lives are filled to the brim today with all sorts of demands for our time and attention, and it’s very easy to get distracted. In the busyness of keeping up with daily schedules, work, church and volunteer commitments, school activities, and more, it’s easy to forget to be thankful and have gratitude for our blessings.
In addition to the distractions we contend with all year long, we’re moving into a busy season filled with expectations. Keep in mind Thanksgiving is about more than cooking everyone’s favorite dishes perfectly, hosting, and entertaining – let us remember why we’re thankful to begin with! If you’re fortunate enough to have loved ones sharing your Thanksgiving table, don’t forget to be grateful for their presence and what they mean to you.
This holiday season, we encourage you to slow down and spend time with family, friends, and loved ones and also to serve those in need. With all that we have to be thankful for, let us move ahead into the holiday season determined to keep thankfulness front and center amid all of life’s busyness. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
