Humility & Service
December 17, 2018
The following was written by Nick Stonestreet, CEO of Ronald Blue Trust.
Throughout the holiday season, these two words seem appropriate — humility and service. We are reminded that Christ was born in a manger in the most humble way possible and He came to serve others. He was not born into a wealthy family nor did he have a prominent career. Instead He was a simple man — a carpenter, a teacher, a friend, and a savior. He humbly served those around him in order to simply spread God’s love.
To me, the story of Jaime Garcia beautifully embodies humility and service. Jaime left the poverty and violence of his native Reynosa, Mexico, and was eventually drafted into Major League Baseball. During his downtime from arm surgery, Jaime was drawn to build homes, open schools, and help children escape the cycle of poverty back in Reynosa.
Jaime has since funded 25% of over 100 homes built by 1Mission for families in Puerto Penasco. He has also covered tuition, supplies, and uniforms for 119 schoolchildren. He is a wonderful example of someone who chooses to give selflessly of his earthly riches in order to improve the lives of others (Proverbs 11:25). Click

During this special time of year, I encourage you to embrace the Christmas season as an opportunity to share the love of Christ in new and meaningful ways. We are all blessed when we look for ways to serve others, find humility in each day, and seek to live a life of generosity. James 4:14 reminds us that life on this earth is short and we only have a moment. Give more to those around you this Christmas — more hugs, more love, more support, and more kindness.
