How It All Began

In 1979, Judy and Ron Blue sensed that God wanted them to take a different vocational direction with their lives. On a hot August day in Atlanta, they sat down in a Farrell’s Ice Cream Shop and explored the question, “What do we want to do with the rest of our lives?” Not having any paper to write on, they sketched their personal goals and options on three napkins – Judy wrote one, Ron wrote one, and they completed one together.

Ron and Judy had several goals, which included:

  • Making a spiritual impact with their lives.
  • Maximizing their time, talents, and treasures.
  • Having a lifestyle that would give them time as a family, allow their children to receive a good education, and enable them to pass on important family values to their kids.

They were considering going to Africa to work with Campus Crusade for Christ, staying in Atlanta with Ron’s current ministry, returning to Indianapolis to manage Blue & Company (the CPA firm he started), or starting a new business. Like the growth of the mustard seed in the biblical parables, Judy and Ron did not realize that their personal discussion in an ice cream shop on a hot summer day would set in motion a vision bigger than themselves.

How Much Is Enough?

At Blue Trust the foundation of our wisdom comes from Scripture. We seek God’s guidance for our lives as well as our clients’ finances. The Bible shown here is Ron Blue’s Bible from the late 1970s when he started his financial planning firm. In February 1977, as he was seeking God’s wisdom for his life, he read Philippians 3:7-11 and made a list in the margins of “things” he was willing to give up in order to follow God’s call.

How Much Is Enough?

In 1979, on a trip to Africa, world-renowned author and scholar Howard Hendricks challenged Ron Blue to use his CPA background to help Christians be better stewards of the resources God had entrusted to them. This challenge plus encouragement from other individuals gave Ron the vision and courage to start his firm, which was originally known as Christian Financial Management.

How Much Is Enough?

Ron Blue wrote Master Your Money in 1986 and it has become a cornerstone of Blue Trust’s financial counsel. It lays out the fundamentals of biblical financial management. Russ Crosson, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Mission Officer of Blue Trust, wrote the book, Your Life…Well Spent, which shares the importance of finding balance in your life, investing in the next generation, and leaving a godly legacy.
